The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2022 has become the second biggest entrance exam in India with total 9,14,103 registrations. A very good number of universities and their affiliated colleges participated in the first edition of the test for their undergraduate admissions for the academic session 2022-23. Out of total 100% participation, female participation was 44.2%, while participation from unreserved category remained nearly 47%. A total of 31.6% candidates have applied under the OBC category, followed by SC category with 10.3% whereas 4.6% candidates of the total aspirants counted under the economically weaker category. The CUET (UG)-2022 is meant for admission into all the UG Programs in all Central as well as State universities for the current 2022-2023 session under the Ministry of Education. CUET-UG, a unique test in its debut provides a common platform and equal opportunities to all the candidates of rural and urban areas across the country. It has opened a new vista especially for those students living in the remote areas to connect with the several universities. Indeed, this single examination will help the candidates to participate and get maximum opportunities to cover a wide outreach and be a part of the admission process to various central universities. The aspirants are given opportunity to appear in as many as nine subjects. They can also register in any of the participating institutions and multiple courses. The Candidates can select from 13 languages as medium for the test. As of now English has been selected medium of test by 6.9 lakh aspirants, followed by Hindi & Bengali with 2 lakh & 7,817 respectively. Moreover, the National Testing Agency, NTA also offers the facility of the correction window for editing hence making the entire exam process more easy and simple. Mr. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC (University Grants Commission) has said, “It is a good indication that even students from remote areas are seeing this as an opportunity, which is a positive development. They don’t have to depend any more on Board exam marks, since CUET syllabus is of Class XII standard, aspirants will be at home while appearing for the test. CUET will become more popular in the coming years as more universities, including state and private universities come on board and also because it will be conducted twice in a year.” Delhi University stood at the first position with over 6 lakh applications, followed by Banaras Hindu University (3.9 lakh) and University of Allahabad (2.3 lakh). Among the Top Nine Universities which received more than one lakh applications, IIMT University Meerut, Best Private University of India, ranked 5th position remarkably.
